In brief
Email scams, also known as phishing scams, are email frauds in which the perpetrator sends legitimate looking emails that appear to come from a well known and trustworthy website in an attempt to gather personal and financial information from a recipient. As a general rule, do not open any email messages from senders you do not recognize. If you think the email might be legitimate, it is best to call the person or organization to verify the legitimacy of the email.
