What would you like to do?
Get an IP address automatically
In brief
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows a computer to receive its IP address, gateway, and name servers automatically when it connects to the network, bypassing the need for a user to reconfigure that information at each new location. This is the preferred protocol for users of the University of Chicago network. The University of Chicago provides DHCP to the residence halls, the wireless network, and subnets in many buildings including Stuart, Walker, the Chicago Theological Seminary and Center for Integrative Science. Some departments also provide DHCP locally, but by 2010 NSIT will be providing all publicly available DHCP on campus.
Do it now
To connect using NSIT DHCP, follow the instructions on the Network Connectivity On Campus website. Any questions or concerns about DHCP provided by others than NSIT should be addressed to the administrators of that system.
